LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Marist volleyball team is a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) team academic award for the sixth straight season. To earn the award, a team must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.

Marist has earned this honor following all six seasons in which Tom Hanna has been head coach. The program was also a recipient of an NCAA Public Recognition Award for its 2010-11 Academic Progress Rate score.

In this past school year, two Red Foxes - Joanna Foss (Northville, Mich.) and Leeann Harridsleff (Simi Valley, Calif.) - were named CoSIDA/Capital One First team Academic All-District. A total of seven Red Foxes were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team as well.

The Marist volleyball team opens its 2012 season at the Hofstra Asics Invitational on Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25. The Red Foxes will have their first home matches on Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2 in the Volley in the Valley Tournament.
