Three Women's Tennis Players Earn All-MAAC Honors

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - In the pre-tournament banquet on Friday evening, three Red Fox women's tennis players were honored by the MAAC. Junior Joana Sun (Gales Ferry, Conn.) led the trio as she was named All-MAAC First Team at the number three singles position. Senior Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) and junior Kelsey Raynor (Garden City, N.Y.) were honored on the All-MAAC Second Team at first doubles.

For the third consecutive year Sun earned All-MAAC First Team honors at third singles spot. The junior tied for the team lead with 11 victories in singles play during the 2011-12 regular season. Her play in conference action picked up even more as she won six of her seven matches for a .857 win percentage. That percentage was fifth-best in the league amongst players, who participated in four or more conference matches.

McCarthy caps career with her fifth All-Conference accolade. Her first doubles partner Raynor also picked up her fifth career award as the duo was recognized for their outstanding play. In regular season action, they went 13-2 overall and 5-1 versus MAAC competition. 13 victories is four more than the next most successful MAAC pairing this year.

Academically, McCarthy (Communications), Sun (Psychology) and sophomore Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y./Business Administration) were recognized on the MAAC All-Academic Team. Both McCarthy and Sun are two-time honorees.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

The Red Foxes will begin their play in the MAAC Tournament on Saturday, April 28 with a semifinal matchup versus the third-seeded Loyola Greyhounds. The match is slated to start at 12:00 p.m.
