Klassen Wins Third Straight MAAC Award For Men's Tennis

EDISON, N.J. - Marist men's tennis sophomore Dalen Klassen (St. Louis, Mo.) earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Tuesday for his efforts in the Red Foxes four wins in the past week. It is Klassen's first career weekly award and fifth overall by the Red Foxes this season. Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland) won the honor the past two weeks and Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) each were named Player of the Week earlier this season.

Klassen was phenomenal this past week, going a perfect 7-0 between singles and doubles action, leading the Red Foxes to a 4-0 week that saw them finish the MAAC regular season undefeated for the third straight season. Playing primarily at the fifth singles' spot, he only dropped a combined four points in three of his matches, including a 6-0, 6-1 win at the third position against Rider on Monday. He also was victorious in a hard-fought, three-set tilt against a good Lehigh opponent, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Klassen went 3-0 in doubles, playing at the second and third spots, including a spirited 9-7 win over Big East foe UConn.

Marist (12-5, 6-0 MAAC) concludes their regular season with three non-conference matches. The first two are on the road this Wednesday and Sunday against Fordham and Hartford. They will then celebrate Senior Day on Monday, April 23 with a home match versus Army scheduled for 3 p.m.
