POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Committee has rewarded Marist for last year's regional ranking of 10 and for their results in the Brown Invitational and USTA Collegiate Open earlier this fall. Marist received four singles selections and three teams of doubles into the ITA Regional main draw. This marks the largest contingent of players ever selected into this major tournament.

The tournament supports of main draw 96 singles and 64 doubles with a pre-qualifying tournament of 32 with the top eight advancing to the main draw.

Lorenzo Rossi (Lugano, Switzerland), Joris Van Eck (Ospel, The Netherlands), Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Will Reznek (Toronto, Canada) were all selected by the committee to play in the main draw. Freshman Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) was also selected to be in the singles qualifier and classmate Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) is one of the ten alternates that will be drawn at random to fill any spots that may be vacated in the pre-qualifier.

Additionally, the teams of Himmelsbach/ Giudici, Van Eck/Billy Bishop (Houston, Texas) and Rossi/Reznek all qualified for the doubles main draw.

Action begins at the Cornell tennis courts on Thursday, Oct. 13 with Dube playing as the #8 seed in the pre-qualifier.

"I am really pleased that our player's hard work and good results in a tough schedule have culminated into a regional ranking of 10 for our team and that five singles players and three doubles teams were selected for the ITA Regional Tournament," men's tennis head coach Tim Smith said. "This represents the most amount of players ever selected from Marist for this prestigious tournament.

"I can remember when we first started playing in this tournament in 1999, where we only had one singles player and one doubles team selected and that continued for a number of years."
