2011-12: Was edged out for the 100-yd backstroke title by .65 seconds as he took second place at 50.82 ... Also finished runner-up in the 200-yd backstroke at 1:49.94 ... Earned a seventh place finish in the 200-yd IM at 1:54.91 ...  In relay action, swam with the second place 200-yd freestyle (1:23.52), third place 800-yd freestyle (6:53.47), fifth place 400-yd freestyle (3:06.09). fifth place 400-yd medley (3:26.70).

At the ECAC Championship, finished fourth in the 200-yd backstroke at 1:50.34 to highlight his performances ... Took fifth place in the 100-yd backstroke at 51.39 ... Finished 14th in the 200-yd IM at 1:54.88 ... Swam with the sixth place 200-yd freestyle (1:24.81), seventh place 400-yd freestyle (3:07.33), seventh place 800-yd freestyle (7:00.45), seventh place 400-yd medley (3:26.68) squads.

2010-11: 200-yard Backstroke MAAC Champion ... Won the 200-yd backstroke title at the MAAC Championships with a time of 1:49.67 (second fastest in Marist history) ... Finished in second place in the 100-yd backstroke with a time of 50.92, his prelim time of 50.81 is the second fastest in school history ... Finished third in the 200-yd individual medley with a time of 1:52.33 (third fastest in school history) ... Member of the second place 200- and 400-yd freestyle teams, as well as 800- freestyle and 400-yd medley relays.

At the ECAC Championships, qualified for the A - Final and finished seventh in the 100-yd backstroke with a time of 51.76 ... Took eighth place with a time of 1:55.87 in the 200 yd IM ... Won the B-Final and finished ninth overall in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 1:52.17 ... Member of the third place 200-, 400- and 800-yd freestyle relay teams, as well as the 400-yd medley relay squad.

Prior to Marist: Spinella joins the Red Foxes after being named a High School All-American in the 100-yd. backstroke and qualifying for the New York State Championship meet in seven out of eight events. He was an All-Long Island selection in consecutive years and placed third at the state championship meet in the 100-yd. backstroke. He has competed in five junior national meets and was a member of two winning relay teams at the 2010 Short Course Junior National Meet.
