Ian Farley completed his first season on the Marist men's lacrosse coaching staff in 2017.
With Farley's guidance, Marist ranked third in the nation in scoring defense in 2017 allowing just 7.50 goals per game to opponents. The Red Foxes' goalies were 13th in the country, making 12.44 saves per game, and the defensive unit was 14th in man down situations as it did not allow a goal 74 percent of the time.
Farley came to Poughkeepsie after serving as the assistant men's lacrosse coach at John Carroll University, a Division III program just outside of Cleveland, in 2016. He led the Blue Streaks to their first Ohio Athletic Conference championship in program history with a 12-6 overall record and 6-1 mark in conference play.
A native of Camillus, New York, Farley graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2015 and earned a bachelor's degree in sports management. He was a team captain for the Pioneers as a senior, playing in 13 games and recording 19 points on 15 goals and four assists.
Prior to his collegiate career, Farley spent a postgraduate year with Bridgton Academy. He played Senior B lacrosse with the Rochester Greywolves for one year and was a six-year veteran of Junior B lacrosse with the Onondaga Redhawks.
Farley attended West Genesee High School in Camillus, New York, where he was part of two sectional championship teams.
What they are saying…
"Ian is someone that we focused our attention on right away during the search process to join us here at Marist. In his first year at John Carroll under Coach Cooper he demonstrated a tremendous work ethic and proved his ability to develop successful student-athletes. His dedication helped guide John Carroll to its first NCAA appearance in school history. He will be a great fit here and I know that he is excited to help us as we embark on what promises to be a great 2017 season.” - Marist Head Coach Keegan Wilkinson
“While he will be tough to replace, we are very excited for Ian as he takes the next step in his career. He has been an integral part in the early success of our young program. There is no doubt his strong work ethic, knowledge of the game and eagerness to learn will sever the Marist men's lacrosse program well.” - Chris Cooper, John Carroll Men's Lacrosse Head Coach
