The Marist men's and women's track and field teams have announced their 2017 schedule.
The Marist men's cross country team picked up its finished the 2016 season with a fourth place finish out of 20 teams at the IC4A Championship held at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. The Red Foxes finished with with 112 points, just off third place Rutgers with 91 points.
The Marist men's cross country team placed 16th out of 41 teams at the 2016 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship held at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday. The result marks the second consecutive year the team finished 16th at the event, although the Red Foxes did have a slightly better point total with 461 points versus 2015 when they finished with 478.
The Marist men's and women's cross country teams are back in action at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Nov. 10th. The women will run a 6k race at 11 a.m. while the men will run a 10k race at noon.
The Marist men's cross country team placed third at the 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday morning. The Red Foxes finished with 104 points. Matt Baffuto placed 11th overall with a final time of 25:21.81 to become the program's first All-MAAC runner in the past four years.
The Marist men's and women's cross country teams will be competing in the 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct 29. The races will be held at Hess Fields at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The men will begin at 8 a.m. while the women are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. The championship is returning to Florida for the first time since 2012.
It was a strong performance for the men's cross country team at the Princeton and Albany Invitationals. On a day when the team split up into two groups for the separate meets, the Red Foxes took ninth place out of a total of 24 teams in New Jersey and fourth out of a total of nine teams in Albany.
Half of the Marist men's and women's cross country team will travel to Princeton, NJ for the Princeton Invitational while the other half travel to Albany, NY for the Albany Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Senior captain Spencer Johnson has been named as the second recipient of the Gregory J. Salamone Memorial Scholarship. Johnson has been a leader of the men's cross country team and among the best long distance runners in school history. The scholarship is named in honor of Salamone, a former school-record-setting runner for the Red Foxes, who passed away on October 14, 2014, at the age of 35 after a brief and valiant battle with melanoma.
The Marist men's cross country team placed third overall out of 45 teams at the Paul Short Run Brown Race on Saturday, the highest finish in program history at the race. The Red Foxes also saw their top 10 runners finish in the top 100 out of 405 runners and had their top five runners finish within 35 seconds of each other.
The Marist men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA for the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oct 1st at 9:30 AM.
A partial squad of the Marist men's cross country team placed eighth at the Ted Owen Invitational at Central Connecticut State University on Saturday morning. The Red Foxes finished with 197 points.
