EDISON, New Jersey – Marist sophomore Mara Schiffhauer has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Women's Cross Country Runner of the week the conference announced on Wednesday.

Schiffhauer had a breakthrough race, placing third overall out of nearly 200 runners, to lead the Marist College women's cross country team to a second-place finish out of 17 teams at Saturday's 49th annual Albany Invitational, held on the campus of UAlbany.

Schiffhauer completed the 5,000-meter course in 17:59.5, one of only three runners to dip under the 18-minute barrier for the course on a windy and chilly day.

The Albany meet was the final regular season race for the cross country team, which now enters championship season. The next meet is the MAAC Championships on Saturday, October 31, at Rosedale Park in New Jersey.
