BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – The Marist College women's cross country team enjoyed a record-setting day at the Paul Short Run, held Friday in windy and rainy conditions at Lehigh University. Senior captain Kristen Traub set a Marist cross country record for 6,000 meters, en route to a top-50 finish in the national-caliber field. And the Red Foxes placed 14th out of 35 teams in the Gold Division, eclipsing the program's previous best of 22nd in 2009.

Traub powered through the slick, muddy and wind-swept rainy course to a 44th place finish in 21:26. This time eclipses Michelle Gaye's 21:28.00, set at the 2014 NCAA Northeast Regional meet. The previous best at Paul Short was Brittany Burns, who ran 21:30 in the 2009 meet.

Sophomore Mara Schiffhauer bounced back with a superb effort, placing 77th overall in 21:49. She was followed closely across the line by junior Elizabeth Wasserman, who was 79th in 21:50. Freshman Emily Burns (21:59) and senior Nicki Nesi (22:16) rounded out the scoring for the Red Foxes.

The Red Foxes had four women break the 22-minute barrier for 6km XC (a school record), had nine women break the 23-minute barrier for 6km XC (a school record), and had 16 women break the 24-minute barrier for 6km XC (a school record).

The cross country team returns to action on Friday at the Metropolitan Championships, held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
