PENNINGTON, New Jersey – Senior captain Kristen Traub placed second overall to lead the Marist College women's cross country team to a second-place finish out of 10 teams at the Rider Invitational, held Saturday morning at Rosedale Park, site of the 2015 MAAC Cross Country Championships in October.
Traub was among the leaders throughout the entire race and finished in a time of 21:42.9 on the 6,060-meter course, a personal-best time for the multiple school record holder. Freshman Emily Burns also earned a top-10 award with her 10th-place finish in a personal-best time of 22:43.6.
In a meet that featured eight of the 11 MAAC schools, the Red Foxes trailed only meet champion Quinnipiac, which placed first with 49 points. Marist and Monmouth both scored 67 points, but the Red Foxes won the tiebreaker on head-to-head matchups. Other MAAC schools in the meet included Rider, Manhattan, Siena, Fairfield and St. Peter's.
Rounding out the top five were senior Nicki Nesi (22:44.4), junior Elizabeth Wasserman (22:54.9) and freshman Ashley Wallace (23:22.6). All were personal-best times.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday at the Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University.
