POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Kate Conard (East Setauket, N.Y.) of the Marist women's swimming and diving team on Thursday was named to the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Conard, a Psychology/Special Education major, graduated from Marist last month as one of the most decorated swimmers in Marist history.
She was named MAAC Championship Swimmer of the Year three times, and holds school records in seven individual and four relay events. In MAAC dual meets, Conard won 52 of the 56 events she entered and at the MAAC Championships, she won 11 of 12 individual events she competed in and 15 of 18 relays. A three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team, Conard holds MAAC Championship individual records in the 500-yd, 1,000-yd and 1,650-yd freestyles. She was a two-year captain for the Red Foxes and, most recently, Conard was named the Marist female Sportsperson of the Year at the senior awards banquet in April and was also selected to the Academic All-District First Team last month.
Conard is the second student-athlete from the women's swimming and diving program to earn Academic All-American honors, joining Michelle Fountain (Class of 2012) who was also named to the third team in 2012. Overall, Conard is the 17th Red Fox to be named Academic All-American and is the second honoree this year, joining classmate Chelsea Botta of the Marist women's soccer team who was named to the Third Team back in the fall.
