BRONX, N.Y. – The Marist women's tennis team fell by a 7-0 score on Wednesday at Fordham in a non-conference match. Senior Joana Sun (Mansfield, Mass.) and junior Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes' effort with three-set losses in singles action.
Playing at #3 singles, Sun battled with Fordham's Angelika Dabu over three sets before Dabu finally pulled out the third set with a 10-6 tie breaking score. In the first set, Sun won 6-2, while Dabu took the second set 6-4.
In #4 singles action, Patterson went head-to-head with Bella Genkina. After Genkina took the first set 6-3, Campbell was victorious in the second set by an identical 6-3 score. The Fordham player won the overall match with a 6-4 effort in the third set.
In doubles, the first pairing of Sun and freshman Karly Pang (Kaneohe, Hawaii) played Fordham's Simidian and Ali tight before eventually falling 8-5.
The Red Foxes be back in action on Sunday, April 7 at home versus Manhattan. The MAAC conference match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
