EDISON, N.J. - Junior Marielle Campbell (Patterson, N.Y.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday. Campbell has been the leading performer for the Red Foxes in their opening weeks of play in 2013 as she has combined to earn four wins in two matches.
In Marist's season opening match versus Albany on Feb. 1, the junior swept both the singles and doubles in dominant fashion. In singles, Campbell won 6-3, 7-5, while in doubles she teamed with Sabrina Tahir and didn't drop a point with an 8-0 final score. In the Red Foxes' second match on Feb. 16 at Colgate, Campbell was successful once again in straight sets in singles 6-3, 6-3. In doubles' play, she battled with Tahir and won a hard fought match in tie-breaker action by a score of 9-8 (10-8).
This is Campbell's first career weekly award.
Marist will be back in action on Friday, March 1 against Quinnipiac in a neutral site matchup hosted at West Point.
