WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Marist Women's Cross Country team started its season out strongly as the Red Foxes cruised to a 35-point victory over second place Iona in the Marist Invitational Saturday morning. Ran at Bowdoin Park, Marist sophomore Michelle Gaye (Greenlawn, N.Y.) led the squad with a 17 second victory.

The sophomore continued to build off of an outstanding freshman season as she took the Invitational title for the second consecutive year with a time of 19:23. She was one of five Red Foxes to finish in the top 10.

Other top 10 finishers included; senior Katie Messina (Queensbury, N.Y.) in third at 19:49, freshman Kristen Traub (Wayne, N.J.) in fourth at 19:54, sophomore Erin Thompson (Washington Township, N.J.) in sixth at 20:33 and sophomore Christine Coughlin (Latham, N.Y.) in eighth at 20:41. Of note, senior Rebecca Denise (East Patchogue, N.Y.) finished in 11^th with a personal-best time of 20:52.

Following the meet, Marist honored the eight members of its senior class in a Senior Day ceremony: Rachel Bremer (West Chester, Pa.), Jackie Gamboli (Stony Point, N.Y.), Kelley Gould (Stormville, N.Y.), Ashley Jensen (Herndon, Va.), Rachel Lichtenwalner (Macungie, Pa.), Erin O'Reilly (East Patchogue, N.Y.), Messina and Denise.

The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Stony Brook Invitational.
